East Dome Committee Meeting Minutes
February 5, 2007
A meeting of the FBAC East Dome Committee was held February 5, 2007 at America Buffet in southwest Houston.
Attending EDC members were Bill Dillon, Joe Dellinger, Don Jarvis and Dennis Borgman.
The meeting was a general discusion of ED operations, problems and maintenance issues. It was the general concensus
that the paneling was the biggest condition issue and needed to be taken care of soon. The old maksutov being used
as the imaging guide scope was discussed, with the primary problem being the focuser. The imaging computer failure
reminded Don Jarvis that a sticker showing our Microsoft XP license was on the old computer and it would be good to
somehow remove it. Fortunately, Joe Dellinger hadn't tossed the computer out yet and has since stated he should be
able to get the XP license sticker off the box. Bill Dillon will schedule another training day in March.
Status of go do's and commitments from last meeting:
- Dennis Borgman - Schedule ED cleaning day, investigate shutter noise. Not done.
- Dennis Borgman - Remove Robo-Focus and repair. Tested, agreed to call Robofocus about sending in.
- Bill Dillon - Schedule training day for mid to late September. Done.
New go do's and commitments from February 5 meeting:
- Dennis Borgman - Investigate paneling availability and cost.
- Dennis Borgman - Contact Robo-Focus about repair.
- Dennis Borgman - Investigate guide scope focuser problem.
- Bill Dillon - Schedule training day for March.
Items completed or removed from the ED open task list
- Item 1 Q4 Status: Has been operational for several months with a few minor problems.
- Item 11 Clean Maksutov guide scope: Asteroid team will clean as needed.
- Item 14 How can non-Zilkha people do guiding?: By using ST7 self guide capabilities.
- Item 25 Develop ED training team with guidelines for testing as main telescope operator: Testing has not been
needed and will be forgone until need arises.
Progress on open items from the ED task list
- There are 13 open items on the ED task list.
- Item 31 RoboFocus won't interface to computer: Dennis will contact manufacturer for repair.
