East Dome Committee Meeting Minutes
August 8, 2006
A meeting of the FBAC East Dome Committee was held August 8, 2006 at America Buffet in southwest Houston.
Attending EDC members were Bill Dillon, Joe Dellinger and Dennis Borgman.
The main topic was volunteerism in the ED. We compiled a list of 6 individuals that we thought would be good
candidates for a personal phone call to help in the ED. This list was forwarded to Cynthia Gustava, ED Coordinator.
It was commented that part of our volunteer problem is the lack of new FBAC members wishing to train on the ED and
quite a few of existing members have moved or have family duties preventing them from volunteering. We agreed to
schedule another cleaning day and further investigate noise and hangups of the ED shutter since the rollers were
replaced. Bill will schedule another training day in September and Dennis agreed to have the 36 available for viewing
to give trainees something to do while waiting for hands on training.
ED April 9, 2006 Work Day Review:
- Jim Ellis, Bill Dillon, Tracy Knauss, Joe Dellinger, and Dennis Borgman attended.
- The 18" was completely removed from the mount for bearing replacement.
- Clean telescope mirror. Complete, Tracy Knauss, Bill Dillon
- The fork arms were removed leaving the DEC bearings in place.
- RA bearings were replaced and aligned as close as possible.
- Dennis Borgman took the 18" tube assembly home to make repairs on delaminated wood.
- A follow-up work day was April 14, 2006. The repaired tube assembly was reinstalled and the scope was restored to full operation.
- Inspect and correct focus port vignetting. Didn't get to do much on this.
- Paint fork. Didn't get to this.
ED April 14,2006 Work Day Review
- Bill Dillon, Joe Dellinger and Dennis Borgman attended.
- The 18" tube assembly was remounted in the fork.
- RA bearing alignment was adjusted as close as we could get it at the time.
- Joe Dellinger stayed to do a tracking test run.
Status of go do's and commitments from last meeting:
- Dennis Borgman - Have ED volunteer signup sheet at meeting. Done.
- Dennis Borgman - Have Wes add link to EDC page. Done.
- Dennis Borgman - Add link to Bill Dillons page EDC documents. Done.
- Bill Dillon - Order remaining shutter rollers. Done.
- Bill Dillon - Complete ED trainee TO test qualifications. EDC decided to not do for now.
- Joe Dellinger - Complete testing of Q4. Not done yet.
- Joe Dellinger - Purchase balance magnets for Open List item 35. Not done yet.
New go do's and commitments from August 8 meeting:
- Dennis Borgman - Schedule ED cleaning day, investigate shutter noise.
- Dennis Borgman - Remove Robo-Focus and repair.
- Bill Dillon - Schedule training day for mid to late September.
Items completed from the ED task list
- Item 15 Replace scope tracking bearings: Bearings replaced April 9, 2006. Need further alignment.
- Item 33 Clean telescope mirror: Completed April 9, 2006
- Item 36 Shutter rollers recently replaced making lots of noise: Replacement complete May 13, 2006.
Progress on open items from the ED task list
- There are 16 open items on the ED task list.
- Item 17 CCD vignetting problem: This was worked on but not resolved.
- Item 31 RoboFocus won't interface to computer: Dennis will remove August 12, 2006 for repair.
No new items were added to the ED task list
Dennis Borgman
