East Dome Committee

Delayed/On Hold Task List
Updated June 28, 2005

9. 8/31/2004 Loose Wiring harness (Dec motor leads can come unplugged on North slew):
From 3/3/2005 EDC meeting: This one isn't too serious... just let people know to watch out for it for now. If someone wants to volunteer to work on this one go for it, just don't make things worse. The nest of cables at the base of the scope launched a whole conversation. General consensus was reached on an RA stop that could be flipped open for imaging in the north or near the horizon. Dennis will build and install.
From 8/31/2004 EDC meeting: Don Jarvis found the thick orange cables unsightly and wants to replace them. Joe said that he feared they would be replaced by thin wires that looked good BUT were susceptible to getting crushed through the rollers, which is how we ended up with those thick orange ones in the first place. Ugly as they are, the thick orange cables are too tough to get crushed, which is their major redeeming feature.
Dennis suggested installing a physical stop on the telescope that would physically limit motion in RA. Joe didn't like this idea either, as it could prevent legitimate imaging near the pole or low to the horizon. If feelings are strong enough we can bring this one up again. We were unable to reach any consensus.
12. Wood paneling on South side of dome needs replacing:
From 3/3/2005 EDC meeting: There is already a project to replace paneling in the West dome, which Tracy is spearheading. Dennis will ask Tracy about the possibility of the E-dome piggybacking on that project.
From 5/24/2005 EDC meeting: The museum has been non-responsive in ordering material for the west dome, so this is being delayed.
From 6/28/2005 EDC meeting: This will be George budgeted for 2006.
16. Scope needs polar aligning:
It's not too bad right now, and when we replace the scope bearings the polar alignment will undoubtedly change, so this is something to do after the tracking bearings are replaced.
From 5/24/2005 EDC meeting: This is still a to-do, waiting on bearing replacement.
