Astronomy Day 2010 will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 3:00 to 10:30 pm at George Observatory/HMNS in Brazos Bend State Park, one hour Southwest of Houston. The George Observatory is a satellite facility of the Houston Museum of Natural Science and is home to one of the largest telescopes in North America that is open to the public on a regular basis (every Saturday night).
Astronomy Day 2009 was a stellar event, attracting over 2,600 visitors. Astronomy Day 2007 at the George Observatory/HMNS was the winner of Sky & Telescope Magazine's prestigious Astronomy Day Awards.
There are numerous activities for adults and kids of all ages, including: Indoor and Outdoor Presentations starting at 4:00 PM, Challenger Center Flight Simulations for kids, Observe Sunspots and Solar Prominences, Observe the Moon and Deep Sky Objects, Professional Research Telescope Viewing through 36", 18", 14" and 11" Telescopes, Dozens of Amateur Telescopes to View the Skies, Face Painting, How to Get Started in Astronomy, How to Purchase and Use Telescopes, Astronomy Button making, Free Material and Astronomy Handouts, Meet the Local Astronomy Clubs, Indoor Displays (CCD Imaging, Interactive computers, Meteorites, Light Pollution displays) And much more...
Astronomy Day 2010 at the George Observatory/HMNS is made possible by the combined efforts of numerous astronomy clubs and organizations in the area, including the Fort Bend Astronomy Club, Houston Astronomical Society, Astronomical Society of South East Texas, Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society, North Houston Astronomy Club, George Observatory/HMNS, Houston Community College, NASA Johnson Space Center, Night Sky Network, ARRL/ARISS, Lunar and Planetary Institute, and many others.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
